BLOG TOUR STOP: MOTORCROSS ME BY CHEYANNE YOUNG

Hi Guys!! So today I am the stop for the MOTORCROSS ME blog tour. I had such a blast reading this book and therefore talking to the author was equally as fun. The synopsis is below.

When Hana Fisher moves to the small town of Mixon, Texas to live with her dad, she dreads having to work at the boring pile of dirt he fondly calls a motocross track. But when she gets there, she finds the rinky-dink dirt bike track from her childhood has grown into the most respected racing track in the state.
Now popular by association, Hana endures the pain and sweat of working in the summer heat in order to fit in with a sport she’s growing to love. She gets a real family, a best friend and not just one, but two of the fastest racers trying to win her heart.
When Hana abuses her status as the track owner’s daughter to help the gorgeous Ryan Russo cheat in the biggest race of the year, she risks more than just losing her job. Every good thing in her life is at stake now- her friends, her dad’s trust, and Ash Carter- the kind-hearted racer who may not be as alluring as Ryan, but is proof that nice guys don’t always finish last.

Seriously though, this book is epic. Below is an interview with the author, Cheyanne Young.

Q: How did you come up with the premise for the book?

I came up with the motocross idea one summer when I was spending a ton of time at my local motocross track. My sister and I always like to "pipe dream" about opening our own track one day, and the daydreams of how I would manage and operate a track made me want to write about a character who actually does work at one. As for the premise of two cute boys…well, that's easy to come up with. ;-)

Q: What was your favorite part of writing this book?

Although this isn't a light-hearted part of the book, I really enjoyed writing about the Riders Down Foundation and showing what happens in the motocross community when a rider gets seriously injured. Riders Down is a real foundation who helped out a friend of mine when he had a severe brain injury from a motocross accident. I wanted to give them a shout out and show how the world of motocross truly is a family who helps out each other when bad things happen.
Q: Did you use music to write this book? If so, what music?
I listened to a lot of Taylor Swift and Jason Castro while writing this book. Taylor because she is the epitome of young adult angst and her songs really put me in the mood to write, and Jason Castro because he's a hottie with dreadlocks and an amazing voice. However, a lot of the book was written to the background noise of Disney channel while my kid sat next to me on the couch as I typed away on my laptop. I know, I know—my life is super glamorous.

Q: What is your writing process like?

I'm a single mom with a 9 year old daughter and a full time job, so my writing hours are rare and often stolen from time that needs to be spent doing other things (like laundry). I tend to write from 10pm-midnight, usually curled up on the couch with my laptop and some kind of junk food-er, I mean healthy food. I have a ton of notebooks with very unorganized notes scribbled all over them. Weekends are when I get my best writing done…I drag myself out of bed around 7am and write furiously until my daughter wakes up.

Q: How did you give all the characters their personalities?

I knew Hana needed to learn how to stand up for herself and how to admit when she's screwed up, so I tried giving her personality traits that could grow and develop throughout the book.
Ash and Shelby are very loosely influenced by a brother and sister I knew several years ago. Some people are just genuinely sweet and good, with no other motives, and I wanted to put people like that in my book. Ash needed to have patience and a level head, especially when falling for Hana because she can be a bit impatient.
Ryan…well… I DID tell you I am a single mom. Guess where his influence came from?

Well, it was awesome being able to participate in this Blog Tour!! My thanks to Shane @ Itching for Books for setting this up. My thanks to Cheyanne Young for answering my questions!!!
